Traffic & Crime

We are committed to working with our members and the city to increase the safety of our residents. With the recent uptick in construction in the neighborhood, we have seen a corresponding escalation of car break-ins and occasionally robberies (though our neighborhood remains a low crime area in Los Angeles).

Recent and on-going initiatives to protect the safety of our residents include:

Street Cameras

Recent initiatives to protect residents have included installation of street cameras. We are happy to help BAHA members with any incidents that occur. Please know that we are a volunteer organization and this help does require significant time and effort. For this reason, we are limiting our services to dues paying BAHA members and specific requests from LAPD or other law enforcement agencies. Security Camera Policy

Muholland Traffic Light

The Mulholland/Roscomare traffic light was lengthened with a longer green light to help the flow of traffic turning onto Mulholland in the weekday peak afternoon hours. This was done on a temporary basis to see if it helps the flow of traffic on Roscomare.

Traffic Enforcement

We also regularly work with the LAPD to push for traffic enforcement on our roads to decrease speeding and failure to stop at stop signs.

Security Surveillance

We looked into the possibility of getting a dedicated private patrol for Bel Air Hills and compared bids from a few providers. According to our research a dedicated patrol would require significant neighborhood participation and at this time it appears cost prohibitive. Trees Roots Causing Street Damage

We surveyed BAHA members and residents on the website Nextdoor for locations where the street is damaged by tree root issues. We drove with a representative of Paul Koretz's office who submitted a list to Street Services. Street services surveyed the area and then requested the city's Urban Forestry division to survey. Currently we are waiting for a response and then at some point Street Services will hopefully schedule all or some of the repairs based on their budgetary constraints.

As is the case in other areas of the city, we also have regular issues with MAIL THEFT. On that front, we have three recommendations:

USPS approved locking mailbox

USPS Informed Delivery

Informed Delivery is a system where you can view scanned images of the mail you are supposed to receive each day. This won't stop your mail from being stolen but it will let you know when important mail is arriving and if your mail is stolen you will at least know what was in it.
