***Organizational Meeting of Board of Directors***  The newly elected Board of Directors of BAHA, held their Organizational Meeting on Thursday, May 8.  The following officers were elected for the 2025-2026 year:

    President-           Mike Kemp

    Secretary-           Teresa Murphy
    Treasurer-           Richard Kipper

Committee Chairpersons (and co-Chairpersons where applicable) were chosen for BAHA committees and the details will be distributed to BAHA Members shortly. BAHA members who may have an interest in serving on any Committee are encouraged to let us know at [email protected], and the committee Chairperson will contact you. A list of BAHA committees can be found at Bel Air Hills Association. This is a great opportunity to get involved in your neighborhood.

***Members’ Party at Ava Kro Restaurant***  On April 24th BAHA hosted a BAHA Members-Only dinner at Ava Kro restaurant.  The event was attended by nearly 50 members who had a great time reconnecting with their neighbors and meeting new members of our community.  Ava Kro provided a scrumptious buffet dinner, accompanied by wine, beer and soft drinks. The communal tables allowed for great conversations and interaction by all attendees. Safe to say a good time was had by all!

***I-405 Sepulveda Pass Pavement Rehab Project***  Caltrans recently announced the planned I-405 pavement rehabilitation program between Van Nuys and Westwood.  Here is their description:

The project covers a 10.2-mile stretch of I-405 between the Los Angeles communities of Van Nuys and Westwood along the Sepulveda Pass. The project consists of replacing sections of two lanes in each direction from Victory Boulevard to Mulholland Drive. Sections of other lanes will be repaired to enhance safety and improve mobility along the primary corridor between West Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. The project also includes restoring/replacing two overhead sign structures, 98 sign panel replacements, upgrading 6,400 feet of Metal Beam Guardrail and upgrading 10 curb ramps.

There will be nightly and weekend closures. The project is scheduled to start Spring/Summer 2025.  For more details, go to: Interstate 405 Sepulveda Pass Pavement Rehabilitation Project | Caltrans.

***Speed Humps  at Roscomare Road Elementary School ***  The safety of our school children (and their families) has always been a concern of BAHA and the community. BAHA member and Roscomare PTA President, Sandra McGarry, partnered with Principal Trent to spearhead an effort to install speed humps near the school to slow down traffic passing the school. The City required the approval of nearby residents and Sandra reports that sufficient signatures have been obtained, and the speed humps will be installed. Sandra reports that Principal Trent has received authorization from the City for 3-4 speed humps to be installed near the school on Roscomare along the stretch of road between Donella Circle and Belcanto Drive (2345-2506 Roscomare Road).  The community will be alerted when the installation schedule is determined.

***Roscomare Street Lights Back On***  We are pleased to report that the street lights on Roscomare Road, from the 2200 block up to Mullholland Drive, which have been out since early January, are now back on as of May 6th!  Between BAHA’s efforts in working with our Council District 5 office and communications from individual members of our community, the City was able to find a way to turn the lights back on!

***Metro’s Sepulveda Transit Corridor Project Update***  As noted in February Newsbites, Metro has indicated that a series of short information modules about the project have been developed. BAHA has previously provided links to the first two modules in Newsbites. Metro has now released the third module which includes a review of the technology being evaluated for the project and an overview of maintenance and storage facilities. It can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/1079721499/a02ecbd921

Metro is also holding more community meetings to discuss the project. For members of Bel Air Hills who are interested in attending one of these meetings, please see the attached schedule.

For further information, go to Metro Sepulveda Transit Corridor

***MySafe: LA Meeting***  One of the items to be discussed is the pending Zone 0 regulations—a potentially major shift in California’s wildfire safety strategy. The meeting is virtual and is on May 15. The Agenda is attached, which includes the pre-registration link.

***Council District 5’s New Hillside Deputy***  Former Council District 5 Hillside Deputy Haley Martinez has been replaced by Kenneth Miller. He is very receptive to hearing from constituents, and can be reached either by his desk telephone, (323) 866-1846, or by email, [email protected].

***Our LAPD Senior Lead Officer***  Our neighborhood’s LAPD Senior Lead Officer James Allen has asked us to share his information with the neighborhood. SLO Allen describes his role as responding to “quality of life issues” which are more ongoing issues where LAPD’s involvement would be useful (so for example, he is not the person to call to report a crime).  His email is [email protected] and his cell phone is ‭(310) 444-0741‬ (he does not work on weekends, so please only text or call on weekdays). ‬‬‬‬

***Neighbor News #1-Play Reading in Westwood***  ***    A short play by BAHA Member Mona Deutch Miller, has been selected, along with the works of five other playwrights, for the upcoming play reading by members of the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights on Saturday afternoon, May 31, at 2PM, at the Westwood Branch Library. The reading is free, the parking is free, the plays are short and ALAP provides light refreshments, but you do have to RSVP with the number of people in your party by May 27th. Send RSVPs to [email protected].  Learn more in the attachment:
