***School Opens Thursday, August 14--Increased Auto and Pedestrian Traffic Alert!*** Roscomare Road Elementary School (RRES) is scheduled to reopen for instruction on Thursday, August 14. Normal school hours will be between 8:15 a.m. and 2:43 pm, except on Tuesdays, when school will let out one hour earlier at 1:43 pm, with students arriving and departing at various times. During those times, expect that traffic around RRES will be slow and congested, especially during the first week of school, and possibly the second and third weeks as well. It is hoped that the new 3-way stop signs that were installed at the exit driveway opposite from the parking entrance to RRES will result in a better movement of traffic, and definitely, a safer environment for the school children and their families. Please be respectful to neighbors by not parking in driveways and red painted curbs. For neighbors living close to RRES, please remember that taking in your trash bins promptly after they've been emptied could help make traffic move along a little better, and help make parking easier. Thank you.
***405 Weekend Closures*** Caltrans announces the start of a series of extended weekend lane reductions along Interstate 405 (I-405) through the Sepulveda Pass. Because the freeway will be reduced to at least three lanes in each direction, motorists are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes.
The work will start at 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25. Motorists traveling along I-405 will experience the following lane reductions and closures:
Northbound Interstate 405
Southbound Interstate 405

***Electrical Transformer at Canyon Crest School--Update*** In July Newsbites, we noted that the BAHA Board had become aware of an electrical transformer that is proposed for the new Canyon Crest School located at the site of the old Bel Air Foods Market. We further indicated that BAHA had reached out to the school for more information to confirm the location, and to be able to advocate that all safeguards and safety protocols are followed in the installation. Recently, BAHA has had discussions with the architect of Canyon Crest School regarding the location of the electrical transformer. We have been advised that the transformer is being moved further back from Roscomare Road, and that they will be adding new fire-resistant landscaping around the transformer. The architect further advised BAHA that updated plans will be shared when they are available.
***Reporting Violations of Construction Hours*** With so much construction taking place in Bel Air Hills, we thought to have a reminder about the Hillside Construction Regulation. That Regulation provides, in part:
“*Hauling operations shall be conducted between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Hauling operations conducted on weekends or State designated holidays is prohibited.
· Construction activity is permitted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Interior construction work is permitted 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Exterior construction work on Saturday is strictly prohibited. Excess exterior illumination of the site is strictly prohibited after 6:00 p.m. through the use of flood lights and similar lighting devices.”
If you are aware of violations of this Regulation, you can immediately report those violations here: Report a Permitted Construction/Demolition Hours Violation | LADBS
***We Need Email Addresses*** BAHA sends Notices, Alerts, Newsbites, etc. to members of the Bel Air Hills community in order to inform residents of matters of interest to the Bel Air Hills neighborhood. We use our email list solely for this purpose; we do not sell our email list. However, we do not have email addresses for all of our residents. Therefore, we are asking our readers of Newsbites to help us by asking neighbors if BAHA has their email address, and if not, to suggest to them that they go to our website at Bel Air Hills Association where they can enter their email address. Thank you.
