Burglary Alert from LAPD
After a largely burglary-free 2026, at least two burglaries occurred in our neighborhood during the last week of July. LAPD is asking residents to be especially alert.
Watch for vehicles that appear to be casing homes—driving slowly, stopping repeatedly, circling the neighborhood, or appearing to have no clear destination. If safe, take a photo showing the license plate or rear of the vehicle, and note the location, date, and time. Send the information to info@baha.la so BAHA can match it to our license plate reading cameras if needed and then BAHA will forward it to LAPD. Do not follow or confront anyone.
Call 911 immediately if you see:

People wearing masks, hoods, or gloves in any vehicle or quickly entering or exiting any vehicle
-
Someone masked/hooded/gloved waiting in a vehicle late at night
Please also check that your alarms and cameras are working, lock doors and windows, arrange for mail and packages to be collected while you are away, use timers for interior lights when away, and never post vacation/travel plans on social media.
Please stay alert and look out for your neighbors!

BAHA’s Virtual Neighborhood Watch
If your security cameras have a view of the street, you can join the fight against crime in our neighborhood! LAPD tells us that our Virtual Neighborhood Watch (VNW), comprised of residents' street-facing cameras, is helpful in investigating crimes in our neighborhood, especially when combined with BAHA's License Plate Reading cameras.
When a crime is committed, LAPD simply doesn’t have the manpower to go door to door to find homes with security cameras and contact the residents to see if they have any useful video. That’s where BAHA’s VNW comes in to help LAPD. When a police report of a crime is filed, BAHA will contact nearby VNW members with the date and time of the crime and ask VNW members to check their cameras to see if they captured any useful information. BAHA will then either put LAPD in touch with the VNW members that have additional evidence or will collect that evidence and transmit it to LAPD.

Clean Gutters Can Help Prevent Fire Disaster
|

|
|
In windy conditions, wildfire embers can travel more than a mile—and a gutter packed with dry leaves or pine needles gives them a ready place to lodge, ignite and act as kindling. Because our neighborhood is in the Wildland-Urban Interface and a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, please check your gutters and clean out all leaves, needles, twigs and other debris, especially after strong winds and heavy leaf fall. If your gutters are not safely accessible, consider hiring a professional to help. Make gutter cleaning part of your wildfire-preparation checklist. This simple maintenance task could help prevent a flying ember from becoming a burning house.

Here’s a reminder: As a community, we need to protect our special area as well as to watch out for each other by being considerate neighbors. In that regard, please remember to respect our neighborhood by putting out your trash bins at the curb the day before pickup, and bringing them back in as soon as possible after pickup. This keeps the street facing portion of your property neat and attractive. In addition, a maintained property, free of empty trash bins, appears attended and inhabited.

Statewide Insurance Market Update

California Insurance Commissioner, Ricardo Lara will be hosting a Statewide Insurance Market Update virtual meeting. He indicates that there are early signs of market stabilization. On the third Thursdays of June, July and August, UCLA opens the Mathias Botanical Gardens for evenings strolls. They call it Twilight in the Garden. The last of these evenings will take place on Thursday, August 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees can stroll through the Garden at sunset, relax to live music and bring a picnic to enjoy. A wine bar will be available for guests 21 and over. Admission is $10, with free admission for children ages 13 and under. Advance ticket purchases are recommended, as cash is not accepted. School Opening August 12th
|

|
Here are some important dates regarding Roscomare Road Elementary School:

August 11: New Student Orientation at 9:00 am

August 12: First Day of School, expect lots of traffic and parked cars.

September 1 and 2: Back-to-School Nights from 5:00-6:00 pm, expect lots of traffic and parked cars.
So please drive carefully and watch out for our young scholars and their families.
